Tip of the Week

"No" is a word that is very common in the human vocabulary. For this reason, many K9s are often told "no" when they engage in unwanted behaviours.

However, the word "no" (and other similar words) is counterproductive because:
- It tends to bring up a range of negative emotions, which are then transmitted to your K9 buddy.
- Humans are more likely to 'yell' the word "no", and use it excessively. To a K9, this just sounds like 'nagging', and so they are less likely to stop the behaviour.
- It is not a verb, so it doesn't actually tell your K9 buddy what you would like them to do in place of the unwanted behaviour.

The best way to improve your relationship with your K9 buddy is to avoid all physical and verbal punishments - and this includes the use of the word "no"! Rather, use action words like "sit", "come" and "give". These sorts of words actually give your K9 buddy direction by telling them what they need to do.
